Armenia is a landlocked country in the South Caucasus, in the northeastern part of the Armenian Highlands. It borders Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, and Türkiye. Its capital is Yerevan.
Mountain landscapes shape much of the country. Armenia covers 29,743 square kilometers, and its highest peak is Mount Aragats at 4,090 meters. Volcanic uplands, river gorges, lakes, and cultivated valleys give its regions distinct scenery.
The country has ten provinces, known as marzes, while Yerevan has separate community status. Each province offers its own combination of historic settlements, monasteries, archaeological sites, natural landscapes, and local traditions.
Armenian is the official language, and the national currency is the Armenian dram (AMD). Cultural visits, museums, wineries, countryside excursions, and mountain hikes can be combined according to your interests and the season.
