Aragatsotn Province is located in the western part of Armenia and is known for its dramatic mountain landscapes, ancient monuments, medieval fortresses, and remarkable cultural heritage. The province stretches from the fertile Ararat Plain toward the slopes of Mount Aragats, the highest mountain in present-day Armenia.
Aragatsotn is an excellent destination for travelers interested in history, nature, hiking, photography, and Armenian culture. Among its best-known attractions are Amberd Fortress, the monasteries of Saghmosavank and Hovhannavank, the Armenian Alphabet Monument, Lake Kari, and Mount Aragats.
The administrative center of the province is Ashtarak, one of Armenia’s historic towns, famous for its old churches, traditional architecture, and the picturesque Kasagh River gorge.
