Tour start: 08:30
We leave Yerevan and head to Khor Virap, one of Armenia’s most iconic monasteries and pilgrimage sites. The monastery is closely connected with the story of Saint Gregory the Illuminator, and on clear days it offers one of the most impressive views of Mount Ararat.
Our next stop is Areni Winery. Vayots Dzor is one of Armenia’s most important wine regions, and the village of Areni is known for winemaking traditions that reach back thousands of years. We will visit a local winery, explore its winemaking environment, and enjoy a tasting of three wines.
We then visit Areni-1 Cave, also known as the Birds’ Cave. Archaeological excavations here have revealed remarkable finds, including one of the world’s oldest known leather shoes and exceptional evidence of ancient winemaking traditions.
The journey continues to Noravank, a 13th-century monastery set in a spectacular canyon surrounded by towering red cliffs. The complex is known for its medieval Armenian architecture, finely carved stonework, khachkars, and remarkable natural setting.
There will also be time for lunch during the tour. Lunch is not included in the base tour price and can be arranged separately.
Approximate return to Yerevan: 16:30
