Tsaghkadzor is one of Armenia’s best-known mountain resort towns, located in Kotayk Province at approximately 1,841 meters above sea level. The town lies on the eastern slopes of Mount Teghenis, surrounded by forested mountains and alpine landscapes. Its Armenian name means “Valley of Flowers,” reflecting the green and flower-covered surroundings that characterize the area during the warmer months.
Tsaghkadzor is especially famous as Armenia’s leading ski resort. In winter, the slopes of Mount Teghenis become a center for skiing and snowboarding, while the Tsaghkadzor Ropeway operates throughout the year and provides panoramic views over the surrounding mountains and forests. During spring and summer, the same area attracts visitors for mountain walks, outdoor activities and its cooler climate.
One of the town’s most important historic monuments is Kecharis Monastery, a medieval Armenian monastic complex developed between the 11th and 13th centuries. Kecharis was not only a religious center but also an important center of education and culture in medieval Armenia. The combination of medieval architecture, mountain scenery and modern resort infrastructure gives Tsaghkadzor a character very different from Armenia’s larger cities.

Interesting Facts:
The name Tsaghkadzor means “Valley of Flowers” in Armenian. The area was known as a summer retreat as far back as antiquity and later became an important medieval religious and educational center around Kecharis Monastery. During the Soviet period, Tsaghkadzor was extensively developed as a mountain resort and sports center. Today it remains Armenia’s best-known ski destination, but the ropeway and mountain surroundings also make it a popular year-round resort.
