Vahagn, the god of fire, was perfect in strength and beauty, yet his character was restless and explosive. Even his birth had been marked by a cosmic upheaval that shook the universe. The gods rejoiced greatly when they first saw him, and each offered him a gift.
The beautiful Astghik* placed a kiss of love upon his forehead and tied to his arm the Cross of War, woven from stars, so that the power of the fire god would become unconquerable. Mihr*, the radiant god of heavenly light, gave him a heavy mace forged from a thousand and one suns.
The new god was delighted with this gift. From that day on, he was often seen racing across the heavens like a whirlwind of flame, swinging his mighty mace.
One day, as usual, Vahagn hurled the mace far into the distance and set out to find it. He traveled across many worlds and planets before finally reaching Earth.
There he discovered the mace rising from a vast plain. As he came closer, he saw that its shining points had already become covered with thick green vegetation. The sight was so beautiful that even Vahagn stood in wonder.
“How marvelous this place is! A mountain and a valley together!” he heard the voice of Astghik, who had approached him.
“And here we are wondering where the god of Earth should be born,” Tir* said with a laugh.
At that very time, the gods were traveling across the world in search of a place for the cradle of the first earthly god.
They decided that it was here that the first god of Earth would be born, and that his name would be Hayk.
Vahagn was entrusted with lighting the sun directly above the cradle, so that the newborn would always have light and warmth.
The place was named Ararat.
It was so beautiful that even the gods themselves would descend from the heavens to walk along its picturesque slopes and admire the land below.
- Astghik — goddess of love and beauty.
- Mihr — god of the sun, heavenly light, and justice.
- Tir — god of writing, wisdom, and knowledge.
