Mount Azhdahak is the highest summit of the Geghama Mountain Range, reaching an elevation of 3,597 m. It is an extinct volcano with a small crater lake near the summit, fed by melting snow. The volcanic landscapes of the Geghama Mountains and the reddish slopes of Azhdahak give this route a distinctive character.
The ascent starts from a high-altitude area at the foot of Paytasar and continues along the volcanic slopes of Azhdahak toward the summit and crater lake. In clear weather, panoramic views open toward Lake Sevan, Mount Ararat, Mount Aragats, Mount Hatis, and Mount Ara.
The route is a moderate high-altitude hike. It is suitable for participants who enjoy active travel and mountain hiking and who are prepared to walk for several hours at elevations of approximately 3,000–3,600 m.
The tour operates from June to November, subject to suitable weather, snow, and road conditions. Mountain weather can change quickly, and the route, schedule, and possibility of reaching the summit may change for safety reasons. On the return journey, participants will also have the opportunity to see the ancient petroglyphs of the Geghama Mountains.
